How to Create a Shutdown Shortcut in Windows:

If you want to shut down your computer every time we are going to start and selecting shutdown button to shutdown your computer. Instead of this we can create shutdown, restart and log off shortcuts in desktop.

This article will help you to create a shortcut shut down file on the desktop.

Step 1:  Right click on your desktop, choose new ->shortcut

sctsdStep 2:  Type shutdown.exe -s in text filed and click on Next

sctsd1Step 3: Enter any name for shortcut and click on Finish

sctsd2Once if you click on Finish button then one shortcut file has created as shown below.

sctsd3If you want to shut down your system simply double click that shortcut.

Step 4: if you want to change the Icon as Shut Down symbol, right click the short cut and select properties

sctsd4Click on Change Icon button

sctsd5You will get a message as shown below. Click on OK

sctsd6Select an appropriate icon from list of the icons and click on OK

sctsd7Click on Ok

sctsd8See the short cut icon

sctsd9If you double click on shutdown shortcut then it will shut down your system

Same way we can also create shortcuts for restart and log off also

  • If you want to create a shortcut for restart Type shutdown.exe -r in shortcut text field at step 2
  • If you want to create a shortcut for log off Type shutdown.exe -l in shortcut text field at step 2
  • If you want to create a shortcut to shut down your computer after a specific time Type shutdown.exe  -s -t 200 in shortcut text field at step 2
  • If you want to create a shortcut to display a custom message before shut down a system Type shutdown.exe -s -t 300 -c “Bye I am going to sleep” in shortcut text field at step 2
  • If you want to create a shortcut to terminate already scheduled shutdown Type shutdown.exe -a in shortcut text field at step 2

Enjoy 🙂
